Hi all,

How can I find VAT number for my company?

I registered my first company some time ago and from what I have read online I should have received a letter from HMRC with the VAT number, but I have not received it.

Thanks

When you register a new company HMRC will send you a letter informing you of your UTR (unique tax reference). You will only get a VAT number if you register your company for VAT. HMRC don't give VAT numbers out automatically. Have you registered your company for VAT? If not then no VAT number.

Before you register, make sure you have checked whether you have to. Read the 'When to register for VAT' info here: https://www.gov.uk/register-for-vat
(You can also register voluntarily which is advantageous in some circumstances)
When you are registered, you will need to keep good financial records and submit a quarterly VAT return. If you aren't paying an accountant then the best way is to use a suitable accounting software service (Quickbooks etc)

As above, personally if your getting into the realms of the VAT threshold in my book you should be talking to an accountant ........they will put you on the straight and narrow and almost pretty sure they will save you paying to much in tax.
