Hi all, thinking of getting a van for my security business. The van will be located outside a residents house 24hrs a day.
I will be getting the van signage at some point to.
I will only be getting a small type van and no more than £1000as on a budget.
Limited company, under the vat £79000 so can't claim the vat back.
My questions are:
Do I buy the van or the company?
Do I insure the van on my car policy as nobody will be driving the van apart from me. Staff will be sat inside the van only.
Or do I get a separate policy for the van as I business van?

Looking to really keep my costs down the best I can so seeing what's my best options?

Please note I have not been in business that long so still setting up.

Hope you can help

Not sure if you can add a van to your car policy, best ask the insurer.

if not they wont accept your NCD unless you cancel the car policy so you will be starting with no NCD, so that will add too the cost, a lot of vans for under 1k wont have vat on anyay, bill the van and insurance and everything to the LTD co

In the winter if they are in the van and its cold and you have the engine running they may have to be insured too 'if they are in charge of a motor vehicle' I would assume, its not so much driving as being 'in charge of'

hope that helps a bit

You really need to insure it properly for business use if you have staff in the van . What you don't expect to happen always does . I never expected to get a phone call ,"I have knocked the gates down at Braunton School" and "I have driven into a tennis court" ,"I have shut the A39" and so on !

I would talk to coversure who would be able to advise the best policy
