Utility Hive and PFP Energy problems

Hi Guys,

On 26th February I have sent to my accountant all details needed to register limited company. The company has two directors with 50/50 share and registered address of the business is that of my business partner.

On 27th company called Utility Hive (energy broker) called my wife on landline number - they not introduced themselves as 'managers' not saying anything else and demanded to talk to my business partner or myself saying it is very important and related to registration of the limited company. They were rude and aggressive. My wife gave them my mobile number and they called me soon after.
The way they were leading the conversation was to make me think that they are Companies House wanting to confirm few details and they requested bank account number to set up direct debit for future payments to companies house (at least I understood it that way) Then they said that since I got a business energy bills need to be now switched from personal account to business account. At that stage they tried to got me into new contract on my current house address. I told them that registered address of the business is that of my business partner and they changed their records to that and informed me that in this case that will change supplier on that address. They asked me to confirm few things 'you only have to say yes to all the points' - and I was stupid enough to do what they asked.
The address in question is a residential property that belongs to my business partner and his wife. Bills were on her name.

Soon after the conversation I received welcome email from PFP Energy.
At that point after calling accountant I realized it is <removed>and called both Utility Hive and PFP Energy explaining situation. PFP said as I entered business contract there is no cooling of period and I can't cancel - I think after reading a lot of stuff now that actually I can be treated as a consumer since the address is not a trading address?
I also warned my business partner and his wife. They called current supplier (Scottish Power) and told the story. Switch already started (PFP wanted to finalise on 7th March) but Scottish Power cancelled that and will put bills back on my partners wife name. They will also complain to PFP. They said neither she or I should be paying any invoices from PFP and it will take few weeks to get the supply back over to them. Also according to the PFP can't object to that.

I also called PFP saying that I will not be paying them anything as this is not my property and I have nothing to do with it and I was scammed by their dodgy broker. They said we will cut off your power supply. I asked what happens if they don't manage to switch supply to my name - they said that contract between me and them will be void.

What are possible scenarios now, what should I do? Scottish Power said energy will be definitely switched back to my partner's wife.
Got impression that PFP will harass me anyway. Of course I started complain process with them as well saying that I was miss-sold and they told they will investigate taking phone recordings from broker.
Can they still insist I owe them something?

Thanks for your advise.

Wow, getting accountant to register the company. They still do it for £15?
Its relatively quick and cheap to do it yourself, still if the accountant has a deal on...

What happened when you went through the complaints process with the energy company? Did they chase you? Did the switch back happen?
Did you then go to the ombudsman?

Has the energy company sent any legal letters or started court action since last March?

No disrespected intended, but I suggest that you stop answering the phone for your business, you'll end up signing up for all kinds of things.

If you thought that it was Companies House, why on earth would they start talking to you about energy bills?

If your business partner tells Scottish Power the situation then they'll object to the transfer and nothing will happen, if the transfer goes through then Scottish Power can label this as an erroneous transfer and take the site back again.

You dont owe anything to PFP and they cannot disconnect a site that they don't supply, so you can safely ignore them.

I strongly suggest that you write to them, rather than calling, if you need to tell them anything.

Not sure what you expect Companies House to do?

I just wanted to warn Companies House how <removed>using data from website. No action needed from them.

In terms of SP erroneous transfer this is what they actually done and advised not to pay anything to PFP.

I have already written to PFP to start complain procedure. In the right time I will report them to Ombudsman. They simply want to get some money which they will never get.

Hello to everyone in this thread who has been affected by this.

I'm the disputes and client relations manager at an energy consultancy and I am currently in the process of compiling a full case to present to OFGEM regarding this company and believe the more information we have on them the better.

If anyone would like me to assist them with their complaint and include them in my investigation I would be more than happy to take the time and act on behalf of all the businesses that have been affected and hopefully get the best possible resolution for all involved. Directly message me.

They can do whatever they like.
Hi Guys,

The exact same thing happened to us today.
The <removed> broker called our salon pretending to be from Company House and got my mobile number from my wife stressing the importance of URGENT requirement to transfer gas contract for sole trader to Ltd co. Our accountant registered us and apparently it came live today...these guys knew it before us as they were the one who told us about it. I got a call on my mobile and I was under the impression I was talking to my current provider and he even said not to talk to anyone else.

Called Pfp then discovered it was a broker from Tns tel no: 0161470 6004. Pfp say they will investigate the call and we were bound by a verbal contract and when said it is fraudulently done i was told they will investigate the recording. We called our current provider and found out the didn't call me. I called the <removed> broker and asked to speak to Thomas the guy who called me and got put through to someone else as apparently Thomas wasn't available of course. The woman was so patronising insisting that I have agreed to it all and now changed my mind and just want to cancel and now lying about them getting my details under false pretence. I mentioned we will report this to the police.
I I have just sent a long email to PfP now detailing what's happened. After which I have just come across the reviews on their page. It would seem that is PfP way of conducting their business.
Am I understanding it right that Ltd companies do not have the right to a cooling off period specially so when a scamming cold caller signed you up under false pretence?

Has anyone got any resolve from these <removed>?

Hello,
<removed>
The way PFP Energy attracts customers looks like is not the right way. I was called by third party brokers straight away after Ltd registration. They told me they are from Commercial Support Help Line and they were started talking to me that they will help me find the cheapest energy supplier and helping me with all around Ltd.
I said them to send me email with all the information and I will discuss with my husband because he is a partner to the business and I don’t want any contract because my husband is doing with all contracts. They said OK we will send you WELLCOME PACK( which is very tricky).
We were asked for call records to be send to Pfp from brokers. That call recording was cut beginning and from the end and the brokers told us that they been deleted full conversation. They were cut only the part where I answered the question regarding the contract and they said that they keep only that.
I don’t want they to supply me. I need advice.
