I work for a company which offers such a service. You're client isn't meeting us by any chance is he?
To be honest at this stage all I would emphasise is to let your client know that there is absolutely no reason to sign anything unless he is happy for the consultant to act on his behalf to get prices on energy. If this is merely a discover meeting then I would advise he simply keep it at that - a discovery meeting.
I like to express to the clients of UES that unless they would like to work with us, then there will be no need to take a pen out of their pockets during any of our meetings.
So, what would we be looking to talk about i the first instance if this was a meeting that UES were attending?
- Introduction
- Explaining how we operate and how we intend to help reduce costs & carbon.
- Where we make money.
If the client is still interested in discussing further we would then...
- Fact find (billing & contract information)
- Provide information on whats available and discover what the customer wants.
Now if your client is asked to sign anything it should only be;
Letter of authority. This document allows the broker/consultant to act on the clients behalf on getting prices from the energy suppliers.
Many businesses ask for a % of the savings that the company would save over 1,2,3,5 years. Some prefer to ask for a price of the work depending on the size of the client. Others don't ask for anything at all and merely survive on the commission the suppliers pay them for the referral.
There are thousands of "Consultants" out there offering this service. I obviously have no idea of what experience your client has when dealing with these types of meetings however all I'd say is keep an open mind and the pen lid on until he is 100% satisfied that it's value for money and that he isn't being locked in to any contracts that he isn't happy with.

I am new here, I am reading your post and thinking you must be a very good marketing guy, I have a manufacturer wich is making the electronic ballast which can be saving 28 to 45% electricity usage without change the street linght lamps
This year we would like to approching into UK markets, I hope I could find an agent to marketing British markets.
