Using the name of a dormant company

Hi,

First let me set the scenario. Right now I am coming to the end of a mobile/web application I've been developing for some time. When published this application will be available for free and, at least for now, will generate no revenue. All expenses for running the site, etc, will be paid for by myself.

In the past I registered a company name, which is currently dormant, but I would like to use this name alongside the application and website, e.g. "copyright <company_name>", etc.

So, my questions are:

1) Can use the name of a dormant company and still remain dormant?
2) With the application/website being associated with the company name, can this be classed as trading or providing a (free) service?

My first thoughts are is might be possible because no money will be users and all expenses will be covered by myself. I've looked at Companies House and there is mention of "pre-trading" activities, so I was thinking that would cover this scenario.

Thanks

I used to do a set of dormant company accounts for a company whose sole purpose was to own a trademark. I came to it after everything had been set up so I couldn't tell you how much activity went through the company initially. All costs associated with the trademark were paid by the company owner.

So using the name would be using it more as a trademark and the company would remain dormant?

The ultimate aim is to have the free app/website associated with the company name and if it were in a position to generate a revenue in the future, then I would declare the company as active and any income would go through the company accounts.

Thanks
