Using e-zine articles?

Is it a good idea once you have wrote an article for your website entirely from scratch to then submit that same article to article directories such as "e-zine" and others.

Do you think this is a good idea to get traffic and links back to the website?

Or do you think it devalues the content of what is written on our website and makes it appear cheap and tacky?

Not really because they won't accept it.
(I know you prove ownership and get around this rule before anyone jumps in btw - but I don't think it's a good idea to let ezine outrank you for your own web content?)

Right ok, so you are saying it is not a good idea to distribute the websites article content.

Can you tell me the benefits of writing blog articles for promotion purposes?
I understand that Google will pick up more keywords from the content if done correctly but is their any secondary advantages to article writing so that you can pull extra traffic in?

ezine articles has been devalued SEO wise, but it's still worthwhile to publish articles there. They often get picked up and published elsewhere with a link back to your site. It's not too difficult to rewrite an article so it's unique, though to manage that for 100's of article sites will require some form of automation :).

Yes, but it shouldn't be your only strategy.

If you do it right, you get a good do follow link on a keyword. If the blog has decent traffic it may even drive traffic to your site.

If you write 'cliffhanger' articles, then it can lead to extra traffic.

The ezine articles dont outrank your own site. Search engines can tell where the content came from in the first place.

In low competitve areas they can be easy little boosts for not much effort. You wont really get traffic from it.

Be careful. Ezine articles get indexed in minutes, if you are going down this route - which I wouldn't advise - make sure the article on your site has been indexed before submitting to Ezine.

Good articles on subjects that are 'in demand' will generate traffic.

I agree with RedEvo .. when google sees same content on two pages it generally picks up the one with higher authority and puts the others in supplemental filter.

Happened with our network or sites once and we had to write new articles for our own sites to get their rankings back.

If your website is mickey mouse with no authority you'll never own it - doesn't matter which google saw first.

What do you mean by that?

What I meant is that if you wrote an article - it belongs to you. If you post that article on your website and then promote it all over the internet (like wikipedia, for example) then as it has been indexed by Google, all the credit will be given to you as you are the orginal owner of that article. On the other hand, if post it on some other website, then the other website will get all the credit for that article. That is it:)
