Used Mobile Payment Terminal - Help!

I recently purchased a 2nd hand Ingenico EFT930G Mobile Payment Terminal from ebay. We already have a terminal connected to our phoneline in our office through Streamline, but needed an extra mobile terminal for when we are out and about. I hoped it would simply mean that I needed to setup this new mobile terminal using my Streamline Merchant number, purchase a sim card and away we go BUT I am having major problems.

Does anyone know how to restore / reset factory settings / defaults on this terminal so that I can insert our company details, Merchand ID / Account number etc?

I've searched online for hours but can't seem to find any info at all, and there is no info in the user manual from what I can see...

Is this terminal I've bought simply useless? I would REALLY appreciate any advice. Probably should have asked for advice before purchasing though! ;)

Thanks for your reply. The description on ebay noted that it was owned by the seller, and that it could be used with any merchant number. I contacted the manufacturers to see how this could be done, and was advised that it was not owned by the seller, but was in fact leased to them. I think that this was probably a genuine mistake, and therefore I have offered to return it to the seller as soon as they refund the money, so that they can return it to the leasing company. If i do not get a reply, then obviously I will need to open a dispute with ebay/paypal. Either way, I will ensure that it does get returned to its rightful owner!

I presume, therefore, that it isn't possible to purchase a second hand mobile payment terminal in any way to be used with an existing merchant account (ours is Streamline)? If so, why do ebay allow such listings at all on their website? Very strange.

We wanted to purchase a Mobile terminal (to go with the one attached to the telephone line that we are leasing from Streamline), as we only need a mobile terminal for 1 month per year before Christmas. The £20-£30 a month (yearly contract) seemed excessive, and to rent a machine for a month only is around £150!

Is there any legitimate way of purchasing a second hand / reconditioned mobile terminal that may be used with an existing merchant number? The £300-£600 for a brand new machine is also excessive! If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Hi

I have posted extensively on this subject before (see below) but the bottom line is as follows:-

You cannot reuse another merchants card terminal as the terminal is pre-programmed with the details of the original merchant it was allocated to (either under a lease or through outright purchase). The Merchant Service provider that you have your merchant account with controls the programing of the terminal and it is NEVER transferable.

If you have a requirement to take payments on a mobile basis a couple of times a year, I would suggest WorldPay Zinc with a cost £ 60 and is a true PAYG solution (no monthly fees or contract) which charges 2.75% per transaction and will work with either Apple or Android Smart phones /tablet devices. Moreover they are getting great reviews for their Customer service, notably on this forum.

Buying a terminal on Ebay was always a risky strategy and I hope you are successful in getting your money back, and you are correct the Seller was breaking Ebay's own rules as they were selling an item that they had no legal rights over, (as far as Ebay are concerned the Seller is responsible for ensuring they have the legal right to sell an item, it is not the other way round) as the manufacturer has confirmed to you it was a registered lease unit..

I cannot stress enough DO NOT BUY second hand terminals from anywhere, at best you end up having to get your money back or at worst you have a novel paper weight for your office..

Hope this helps..

Rgds
