Hi all

One of my children recently got a tablet computer as a gift for their birthday along with a USB dongle (on 3) so they could connect to the Internet with it.

It was from their grandparents and not knowing about these things did not realise that the dongle is no use to the tablet as it does not have a USB port.

Unfortunately, the receipt for the dongle as been lost so they cannot return or swap for a wifi one.

My question is: is there any sort of gadget available that can allow the USB dongle to connect to it which then turns it (the gadget) into wifi enabled thus allowing the tablet to connect to it?

Sorry if that sounds a bit mumbled but hopefully you will follow what I mean!

I have looked online but can't find anything but you would think there must be something like this on the market somewhere???

Many thanks in advance for any help received.

Thanks to Paul_rosser.

I know I should just put it down to bad luck & just buy the 3 mifi and use the unused sim from the dongle in it (it is a 3GB one) but out of interest do you know a uk stockist for your first suggestion and a guide price I should aim for?

Also, can you buy a 3 mifi WITHOUT data included in the pack and how much should these cost? The reason that's holding me back from buying one is that I can only find one that has 3gb data included and they are around £50 (ouch!).

Or maybe I could find a used one without data for sale on ebay...

Many thanks again

Don't know of a UK stockist for that product, you can get them on ebay.co.uk but they seem to all be shipped from China.

This one on amazon.co.uk seems to do the same thing and is battery powered - http://www.amazon.co.uk/TEQZINKI-Wi...=1379919972&sr=8-8&keywords=3g+router+battery

Haven't used one myself so you may want to ask the seller if it will do what you need.

You can pickup a Mifi for £40 on amazon

You could go for either of these, but they do require external power from either a PC/laptop or socket.

FWIW, I've just taken delivery of my mifi from 3 (the one in Paul's second link)

I'm paying £10 a month for 5GB of data on an 18 month contract (no upfront fees) - but then I phoned up 3 to cancel my £15 a month 10GB micro sim for the iPad and they were very persuasive and desperate for me not leave 3 (hence the better deal than is available through their website)

Its a great little device - essentially its turned my iPod into an iPhone (without the phone bit - but I have my trusty old & battered Nokia on PAYG for that (no-one ever phones me, and I never phone anyone))
