I have just added a new page to my website (its done on dreamweaver), and I want to link it to my homepage i.e. I am inviting people to visit our 'areas covered' page, but I have forgotten how to link it, so it needs highlighting, and when people click on it, it will take them straight to that page.

How stupid am I?

To insert a hyperlink in dreamweaver you can highlight the text you want to become a link.
Then Click on insert on the menu bar at the top, then click on hyperlink on the drop down menu that appears.

A box will not appear allowing you to enter the link.

Once you have put the path to the file you want to link to in the link box you can click on ok.

And your done..

Hope this works
Many Thanks

w3schools.com/html - this is an amazing website for newbis to HTML, quick, easy and simple to use
She is using Dreamweaver. It's a WYSIWYG editor, so whilst knowing html is useful for when it has a problem, it is not meant to be necessary.

Highlight the text you want linked and then use the linkbox, as said above.
Use the swirling round doodhah to point at the link, or the folder icon to find the link that way.

Hi Nina - your webstats should tell you. For example with Awstats you can click on "robots/spider visits" in the menu and look for Googlebot in the list.

The problem is that not all web statistics are as comprehensive as others.

Google has it's own Webmaster Tools - There is a way of checking through that too.

Hope that Helps!

Hi Nina,

I definitely recommend using Google tools. - set up an account with Google and in the services option, choose Webmaster tools. These may be a little confusing to start with but the help menu is pretty comprehensive.

You may also want to put Google Analytics (web statistics) on your site which is very powerful and totally free - although I think Google then have access to your data.

Cheers,
Paul.

Hiya - yep go to Webmaster tools. It provides various useful tools - it lets you know the last time it accessed your site, how many links to your site it can find, whether there are any probs with the code etc.

Cheers,
Paul.

Another useful (free) statistics service is provided by StatCounter. It does involve adding some code to your web pages, but it does provide a very comprehensive set of stats.

http://www.statcounter.com/

You can also allow visitors to your site to view your statistics if you are so inclined! Ther is a limit on the number of hits per month, but this is usually plenty for most needs.
