My new front door and side panel window (approx 5 ft in width) does not appear to have any fixing at the top of the whole panel. When you open or close the door the top of the upvc unit flex's over one cm - it sort of bounces. I called out the supply company and they put some caulk along the top of the unit. This has now dried out and is attached to the wall only, as the bounce movement means the unit is moving so it has become detached from the caulk.
Additionally the movement of the upvc panel is now causing stress on the two upright sides of the wall and the plaster is now cracking on these sides where the fixings can be seen going into the wall. When you open/close the door and you see the unit bouncing, you can see the plaster flexing.
My question is, should the top of the whole upvc panel be fixed at some point to the above wall / joist to stop the flex movement?
My second question is, if so who should I contact, as I have already questioned the DG supply/fitting company and they put caulk over the gap. Surely, this was a poor fix!?
Can anyone throw any light onto this?
Thanks.
Jeanette
