Uploading images to Wordpress?

We regularly upload images to our wordpress(.org) blog, but the whole process seems rather clunky and long winded. Here's what we've been doing:

1) Download image from phone/camera
2) Bulk resize using XN View, normally to 80% quality and to 800x600 (or larger if to be used as a header or outwith a blog post) or thereabouts, with the aim to get the image down to 100-200 kbs or so.
3) Bulk re-name the file names (is this necessary?)
4) Upload to Wordpress, which then compresses futher using Smush plug-in. Edit Alt Tags and then insert into post.

Is there a method that skips any of these processes, e.g. is it possible to upload the full size image straight to Wordpress, and for a plug-in to automatically compress/reduce the image, and not leave the full size file on our domain, which would eat up storage very quickly.

But you still need to rename and add alt tags and captions.

You could get a plugin written that does this for you though. I did one similar to this a few years back. All you do is add a caption and the plugin does the rest for you.

I like to use WP Smush, it could compress images after uploading. Another one easy to use is ShortPixel Image Optimization plugin
