From what little I've read, the proposal to replace tax credits and other benefits with a universal credit will adversely effect some self employed , particularly people just starting up their businesses or going through a difficult time of less sales / work as I believe all self employed folk will be expected by the government to be paying themselves at least the minimum hourly rate for the amount of hours of work they state they're doing, with top -up benefits adjusted accordingly. From reading many posts on here, I understand that a lot of self-employed can't afford to pay themselves a minimum living wage, at least at the outset and sometimes for longer. How do think this is going to effect the self employed and business growth in the UK ? And am I correct re the government's proposals ?
