I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you do nothing but complain, does that work. If there was a way we could take a form of action against the Government, would they start listening to us. At the moment, they just do what they think is right and not what the people wants.

I agree with you but it also happening alot in the private sector e.g. British Airways causing huge disruptions and losses in income and profits which is in turn affecting the wider British economy that has just started recovering, but according to my knowledge Unions are far less powerfull then they used to be in the 60s and 70s but are still capable of causing huge damage

The unions may less powerful, but they are making their mark. I agree to a point that this could cause more damage, but when people are fed up, what are they to do.

I am about to launch a business, the 1st thing on my list is to listen to my employees. A happy workforce is a hard working workforce.

I totally agree in your case the last thing you would want is your employees joining a trade union, I would rather work with my employees directly without trade unions in the middle, its alot more easier and you can listen to them more effectively and motivate them and building a work relationship which will determine the future success of the business trade unions can be a distraction sometimes but I totally agree its mostly down to the employer and how he treats his/her workforce and what incentives he/she provides etc.

Over the next 18 months I will be employing around 100+ staff. I will be giving then a forum to voice their concerns. One of the advantages is that they may spotted somthing I missed.

At the same time my staff must realise that this is my business and though I will bend over backwards to keep them happy, the bottom line for the business is to make money and keep them in jobs.

This is simple, Mooooooo. No seriously, I work on the principle that I am just a cog in a machine. We all need to work together to make sure they continue to have a job.
