I've worked with this theme on a number of occasions picking up odd Magento jobs for clients. It's a mess with tons of bolted on features that bog down your store front (like most premium Magento themes).

These types of themes typically suit the low budget stores who don't know how to work with Magento or don't have a designer/developer that knows how to work with Magento on hand.

We'd never recommend themes such as this if you want to get the best out of your store but it's a cost effective means of getting up and running if you can't afford to get a custom theme developed.

Agree with Zigo, its bad

There are clear bugs that are visible in the code by simply reading it. Wouldn't recommend.

That said, its cheap and is full of features but if you are planning on investing in your store over time, then building it up on Ultimo is like building your house on sand.

A site I have worked with uses it, and really does has it flaws, the main issue at the moment is the one page checkout picks and chooses when it wants to work. I can send you the link if you want to take a look at it. Another member here preciousbags uses it also.

Really glad I read this, I was so tempted to purchase this for a new website I'm planning. Are the 'bad' things really as bad as "Edmondscommerce" suggests, building it on sand sounds very dangerous lol.

Are all themes for Magento deemed 'bad' for the same reasons or just this one in particular? Any themes out there that are good to use?

Another thing to consider is site speed. I've recently worked on speed optimising a 1.7 site with a custom template & got it down to < 1 second for all page types. The client then added a new OTS template & page loads increased to 5 + seconds. He then swapped it out for another OTS template, Argento, and now speeds are sub 1 second again. Argento looks pretty good under the hood but is also loaded with tons of features, that I've had to turn off. It is responsive tho.

Another option, if its not too late, is to upgrade to Magento 1.9 - this comes with a new responsive base template (rwd) which is pretty nice, clean & fast. I'm currently prototyping a new design based on rwd on my dev machine and it's going pretty good so far.

We currently use it in our store, and to be honest, there has only been the odd minor gripe but it works fine and the look and feel is better than the previous theme we used. Haven't had many issues with site speed that I've noticed. Also, it's integrated with the Sweettooth rewards and one step checkout extensions amongst a few others. I use it with CE 1.9.0.1.

My 2p worth.
