UK to IE Import + VAT Query

My company is based in the ROI and we need to import some glassware from the UK. The company we used previously were great so would like to use them again to provide the goods but the last time we ordered it was classed as an Intra-EU trade.

i contacted them recently and they were reluctant to ship to ROI due to paperwork but said we could arrange shipping/clearance ourselves and they would produce the glassware.

A quotation has since been provided but includes UK VAT. Should this not be VAT free but then paid for at the ROI rate at customs clearance to allow us to claim back?

VAT is a tax on goods used in the UK and you do not charge VAT if goods are exported from Great Britain to a destination outside the UK.
You can zero rate the sale, as long as you get and keep evidence of the export, and comply with all other conditions. You must also make sure the goods are exported, and you must get the evidence within 3 months from the time of sale.
