UK SRT / work travel: how do you prove days in/out of the UK if HMRC ever asks?

I keep seeing the same issue: people think days in country / tax residency day counts are simple until they need to prove physical presence (UK Statutory Residence Test (SRT), UK “workdays”, bank/KYC, etc.). And then the “day log” gets messy fast because sources don’t match. So I’m curious: what’s your current source of truth for travel days (spreadsheet, calendar, apps like Flamingo Compliance or TrackingDays, email travel receipts, bank statements, something else)?

Do you yourself know how many days you have been in/out of the UK? Surely you have some records whether it be in a dairy, or your mobile phone to enable you to work it out fairly accurately.

When i was a freelance sailor , i used to just add up the dates i invoiced, but also had a seaman's book filled in by the skipper joining and leaving but they did not include days traveling and hotels waiting for a ship to come in. You can always request your passport stamped

You passport would have been stamped if entering and leaving the EU
