I've been with the same UK web hosting company for 5 years - support has always been fab, but they've really fallen flat on their faces when it comes to helping me get a multi-domain setup of Magento running. I'm looking for a new service provider.

With the multi-domain setup you need all domains pointing to the same place, in order for it to work. If you have a dedicated server (which I can't afford) you would normally edit the httpd.config of the server to do this.

I'm after a quality solution but can't afford a dedicated server. Any suggestions?

You do not need dedicated unless you have very high traffic site, magento can be optimized to run nicely on VPS.

We just finished a multi site magento setup yesterday, another going out the door today and a few more in the past, they vary a little from version to version. But as long as you have your domains setup its a relatively simple task for a developer.

Drop me a PM if you want to go through it a bit more.

With Magento, the amount of resources you need is more dependent on the number of products and the number of visitors, rather than the actual number of domains. Now the only real problem a host could have with you is if you needed a separate ssl certificate and ip address for each domain.

If your host will not configure the server side for you, then move on.

A dedicated plan would only be required if you have anything in custom setup for your wesite and it may affect the other accounts or if you have a high amount of traffic that no other package would be able to suffice.

Now here Im not sure what the size of your data is, but assuming that it ain't be much, you can look for a Reseller or a VPS with WHM/cPanel. In that you can host unlimited number of domains and install cPanel on each. You may redirect all those sites to the intended domain and serve the purpose.
If you are looking for 100% uptime, then I'd suggest you to look for Cloud hosting package. These packages are highly scalable and are built on a virtualized platform which also makes it affordable and reliable.

Do post your queries here incase you need any more information, would be glad to guide you choose the best opion.
