Not happy with current host, spend almost £500pcm on hosting

Looking for the best dedicated server solution for around £100 (inc VAT; to test water):-
1) Must be hosted in the UK
2) Must come with cPanel/WHM
3) Enterprise Class server and processor
4) Good connectivity
5) A decent web host

The idea is then to transfer the rest across.

NetwiseHosting

Hi Peter,

Just to throw our offerings in to the pot here if I may - we host many members here on the forums and unlike the majority of the above we are not resellers. We own the hardware. Not only do we own the hardware but the servers are housed within our own data centre facilities and connected to multiple Tier 1 transit providers through our own multi-homed BGP network.

Enough of blowing our trumpet! We can offer the following, with free same-day setup, on a rolling 30 day contract for complete flexibility:

- Intel Xeon 2.26GHz Quad Core Processor
- 16GB of DDR3 Memory
- 2 x 2TB SATA Hard Drives
- 5TB of Data Transfer on a 100Mbps Port
- Branded Enterprise Hardware
£119 / month with Free Setup in February

The above includes any flavour of Linux or we can provide Windows from an additional £10 / month.

As a client you would also have direct access to our My Netwise Hosting control panel that includes the ability to remotely reboot your server, monitor both live and historic bandwidth graphs, re-install your operating system and set your own reverse DNS records in addition to the usual billing, multiple contacts and support ticket features.

If you would like to discuss this further, confirm our reputation with any of our clients past or present or have a chat about our data centre estate then please feel free to drop me a PM.
All the best,

Matthew

Hi,

We offer a large selection of high quality dedicated servers at http://www.webhostingbuzz.co.uk/dedicated-servers.php

We only use Intel Xeon processors, ECC RAM, enterprise hard drives etc.

We are slightly above your budget but the first month is half price, giving you ample opportunity to test

Matt

"Enterprise" is one of those buzz words like "cloud". They mean nothing but permeate an aura.

WTF is an "enterprise" hard drive?

A hard drive designed to be used in datacentre environment. I.e. not the cheapest WD Red/Blue or Seagate that many of the budget providers use to cut costs.

For SATA, we use WD RE4 - http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=580
WD refer to them as Enterprise

For SSD, we use Samsung 843 Pro - http://www.samsung.com/global/busin...-news/detail?contentsSeq=12996&contsClassCd=G
Samsung refer to them as a datacentre SSD

FWIW, I hate the mis-use of buzz words too. People describe a VPS as a cloud etc.

Just to update. I have made my decision and decided to split between two hosts.

Thanks for the offers, assistants and PMs.

My current host got so bad to the extremes I thought transfer immediately! So instead of testing the water I dived straight in. I cannot see it being much worse in all honesty.

Over the last 5 years there have been more tools in the mainstream to do due diligence on hosting providers. Reviews can only really be taken with a pinch of salt.

I disagree with @petitionserver as long establishment doesn't "imply good google rank". One of the big factors in hosting is when the major few takes over smaller hosting companies - this can create security and endorsement of the service - but in many cases they rip apart the good aspects and provide a pretty poor service.

Yes, sadly, most review sites are affiliate driven/powered who rate the hosts with the highest affiliate payout as best. And this is not usually the case.

We ask clients to do our feedback via trustpilot because there has to be a verified order/invoice id submitted with each review and from feedback, that has increased the trust factor a lot vs other review sites where reviews can be left with no proof of actual purchase

"I assumed you overlooked the message that I have found hosting now?"

What a totally useless thread - rather symptomatic of UKBF these days. The reason people follow threads is that others and often themselves may also have the same issues. A wrap up to a thread is always worth it, so instead of picking up your ball and going home, I, and perhaps others are also interested in finding out what solution you came to and if any particular thing swayed you. It's a forum and not a personal chat service.

I see your point of view Kevin, its a public conversation online indeed... however, hosting companies will just keep jumping on the thread so its 2-3 years out of date, all the pricing is wrong, some hosting companies would have hit the wall or been bought up, recommendations no longer applicable in many cases.

The intended conversation was about what is the best dedicated hosting for the price. As with real life conversations, its time limited, every time you see someone you don't make reference to continue on an already resolved conversation from last week, a month ago, a year ago, right?

I think the major factor for me is when the topic is hijacked for an spamming ground to advertise products... forum members can upgrade to get signatures and adverts on the website to attract trade. I think its different when talking generally (i.e. people can enter a conversation and people can leave, whilst it still continuing...) but there is no point asking me about requirements etc. once its already been resolved.
