is there anybody that is involved in tyre industry or anybody that is a mobile tyre fitter. i am trying to find out average cost of fitting a mobile tyre fitting van. could you recommend any tyre changers, compressors, inverter etc. is it easy enough to fit the equipment into the van or would you need a specialist to do it. i know there are second hand tyre fitting vans available (not that many though) bu want to explore all options. any help or info appreciated.
thanks

I've just done this very thing and spent nearly 25k setting up.

It has to be said i spent 8k on the van alone then 3k on the tyre machines (ebay automotec) 2k on compressor (rated for doing plant and commertial tyres)

I also spent a great deal on specialist tools that if your not doing plant tyres you prob wont need.

Its been well worth it where i live as there was no body else doing it.

I've also seen fully kitted vans go for 6k on ebay but image is everything in this game.

look at garage equipment group as they do full fitted vans for 10k ish and offer finance.

Hi Urbtree and Benar4,

Im currently working on a business plan to start a mobile tyre business in Germany. Im an English guy living in Germany and beleive there is a massive opportunity for this type of service over here. Im looking for a font of information for a startup in this industry and would appreciate any information you can offer. If all is well I guess you are both coming up to the end of your first year in business. Id like to get some information to help with my cost plan and budgeting so if you think you can help please let me know.

At the moment Im just building a plan and on a fact finding mission. If the information is a bit sensitive to post please feel free to contact me privately.

Im looking for info like.

Costs
Setup
Maintenance
Fuel - mpg with kitted vans
admin/web

How many customers do you get/ can you handle per day
how many tyres can be stored in the van with all equipment
do you hold stock? or collect as and when needed?
Does this mean you need many suppliers or do you have 1 with a network of depots?
What time scales do you work on from order to delivery?
What are the main challenges of running your mobile tyre business?
How big is the area you cover
Do you have a website to allow companies to place orders.

Turnover / profit forecasts

Ordering systems
Supplier relationships

What have been the biggest challenges in your first year?

As you can see Im really after alot of information but if you could take a bit of time to tell me from an insiders point of view how you found the first year it would be a massive help.

Thanks in advance

i unfortunately do not deal with hgv/psv or agri tyres but i do know it would be hard to find something like that second hand unless you know someone retiring or selling up.
you can get them new from main equipment manufacterers etc etc.
Google The TYRE EQUIPMENT COMPANY Ltd. i am not allowed to post links on here yet. they do agri / truck bead breakers so maybe give them a call or send an email and they may be able to help. click on video clips towards the bottom of list and you can see a demo.

Where abouts in the country are you based??

Hi,i'm a mobile tyre fitter working in the Bridlington/Scarborough area.its not just buying the van,i have a merc sprinter kitted out with just about everything i need for doing car,van,4x4 tyres.you also need plenty of money to live off as for the 1st 12-18 month will be a struggle getting your customer base built up.i started jan 2011 & its just starting to pick up,depending on the area you are in you also need to be looking at supplying & fitting partworn tyres as not all customers can afford new tyres.
