Hi there,

I am doing some research into online advertising revenue and would greatly appreciate if someone could give me some form of basic overview.

What would you say the typical revenue for webpage adverts are, i.e £X per Xvisitors?

What types of advertising are available? How are these sold etc?

Any light you can shed would be fantastic.

As he ^^^ says there is no such thing as a standard website or revenue. I can tell you that sites I have earn Adsense revenue at the rates ranging from £1/1,000 to £15/1,000. Now if I could only get 1,000,000 visitors a day to the £15 ......

Ok I see. Would you take it further to say that even a group of websites targeting the same demographic would be receiving different ad rates? Or would I at least see some pattern in rates in groups of sites?

Thanks for the replys guys, much appreciated.

Yes, some sites targeting the same interest groups but different keywords have massively varying returns.

I can't really back this with statistics as my sample size isn't big enough, but the more niche the keyword seems to attract a higher ad click through rate (as I assume the adverts are also more specialist and targeted due to Googles Ad serving logic) but also the more niche keyword the lower the number of visitors, clearly.

Take a look at the Facebook corporate accounts. This will give you some indication.
Some would say, the biggest internet site in the world. I think there ad revenue for last year was in teh area of £248 million pound, Divide that by the number of users, i.e 1 Billion users. and that should give you some figures to move from.

Also Google Accounts would be a good source of information.
