Hi UKBF Members,

First of all I would like to wish everyone well and hope you all had a goods Christmas. I have a bit of an issue. I have built TWO online yet very different businesses. The problem I have is which one should I go ahead with.

With both businesses I will only undertake work from customers within a 15 miles radius from my home base. This is to ensure that my customers are able to access support either online or by visiting my base, giving them peice of mind.

Business 1 - Website Design and Print
I have created a website design and print website to offer low cost website design and desk top publishing. The site also offer my customers step by step videos on how to edit, add content and upload a range of media to help them manage their site as well.

I have also added an SEO platform which will email my customer data on how well their site is doing on Bing, Google and Yahoo with a range of tools to help them carry out and monitor the SEO on their site.

I will charge between £25 - £50 for the website design, around £2.50 per month for hosting and of course any domains they want registering. For the print side of the business, I will charge £6 per hour for any design work carries out.

Business 2 - Click and Collect
My second business I have built online is a Social network which incorporates a shopping mall which will allow businesses to list their goods and services in one place and give users of the site the opportunity to reserve their items just like Argos, Tesco and Asda.

There are four categories which a business can list their goods and service which offers different question for the click and collect box. These are a physical item, a virtual item (e.g. a piece of software), a service (e.g. hair dressing, builder, gas engineer, etc) and to reserve a table at a food outlet.

As soon as the reservation is completed the details of the customer and the item reserved is then either sent to the business by email or for a small additional fee, the reservation is sent by text.

The site also offers a discount voucher feature which businesses can promote various discounts to suit their needs and these vouchers can have limits on the total being printed off, the total each user can print and have vouchers just for friends of the business.

Each business will pay a fee when joining my service as a holding deposit and each time a customer either reserves an item or hit the print button and prints off a voucher, the cost of each service will then get debited off their deposit. When the business holding deposit hits £5, they will receive an email inviting them to either top up or they can choose to do nothing and when their balance reaches £0.00, all their listing will be suspended. Their listings will be held on my system for 6 months to give them the opportunity to reactivate their account or after this period their listing is deleted.

With this business I have estimated that this business will generate more sales but will require more input of my time. Therefore I have decided that I will use a big chunk of my profits to help local people in need.

My Dilemma
The problem I have is that I can not choose which one to go with as I can see advantages and disadvantages with both businesses.

With business one, there is loads of competition and I can create around 10 websites per week and for the fees I'll charge, I should hit my target of 5 websites per week.

With business two, with all what I am offering, no other website has all the features in one site which my site offers. I understand that the amount of time I need to give to this business will be much higher then the first business but the reward could be so much higher.

So I have decided to ask for the input of UKBF members and ask if you could enter your choice to what business I should go with in the poll. Also make any comment you would like, even if they are damning, as this will help me to choose the right business to launch and give my full attention too.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for reading this post and hope you can take the time helping me choose what to do.

All the best for 2016

The concern I would have relating the second option would be that you would be very reliant on the stores giving you relevant and updated information. Click and collect is often used when sourcing items that might be high demand and could be out of stock. Your site would need to be up to date on stock levels otherwise it could lead to problems. If you think you could overcome this, then it is an original idea.

Your price for a website design seems very low so you would probably attract a number of customers but I would beware of underestimating the cost of your time.

Good luck.
