Twitter 2000 followers problem

Does anyone know how to sort out the problem of not being able to get past 2000 followers? or be allowed to follow 2000 people?

We try to follow everyone back when they follow us but now we're not allowed :|

Made over 600 tweets in 18 months but didn't know there was a limit to how many people you were allowed to follow or how many were allowed to follow you back.

Actually, just Googled it...

From the Twitter Help Centre
Are there additional limits if you are following 2000+ accounts?

The rules about aggressive following and follow churn still apply. In addition, every user can follow 2000 people total. Once you've followed 2000 users, there are limits to the number of additional users you can follow: this limit is different for every user and is based on your ratio of followers to following.

Your ratio may be out.

That must be flashing up as slightly spammy in Twitter's eye's even though you may not be spamming. It is mainly down to your Followers to people you follow is way out. It is what usually tends if you quickly follow 2000ish people on twitter and say you are below that number.

Twitter seems to prefer you having more follows than followers.

Personally I would pull out of the trap of following people just because they follow you. In a large number of cases they tend to "unfollow" you after a couple of days, this is all just to boost their follow count.

Use a service www.justunfollow.com to see who's unfollowed you. In the world of twitdom it is the quality of the people you're following rather than the number of people you're following. The object of the game is to get your Followers to retweet, your insights into the humanity to thier followers.

still struggle with twitter, couldn't cope if I followed 2000 people, sounds awful.

We thought it would be a nice thing to do and simple too, e.g. you follow us, we follow you, done.

Used that justunfollow thing yesterday and found that 858 people who we follow no longer follow us  cheeky little monkeys!

We're working our way through and unfollowing them, most have either deleted their accounts or are no longer active on Twitter anyway.

The twitter site only works when we have a competition running, people crawl out of the woodwork all of a sudden and show us some love until the competition is over, then they unfollow us and so the cycle begins again.

I had this issue, and was informed from my social media expert that once you hit 2000 followers/following, you are not allowed to follow 10% more quantity than follow you.

It does get easier the more people follow you, but a quick solution is to use twit cleaner to unfollow anyone that you do not desire, and that will free up numbers for you.

Of course, please follow me when you get a chance - @neildigital

There is a cut off as Neil states above, we were unlucky/lucky when a competitor used a cheap job board website to get 25K "tweens" with no icons to follow us. Made our account look spammy/low quality and unprofessional. Did remove the 2k ban for people we could follow! But I wasted so much time trying to remove them all, even using tools like tweepi, you cannot autocheck the names, its a time consuming manual labour of love.

If you are seen to be following people aggressively, Twitter will warn you and even place a temp block on your account.
