Trial periods

Just wondered if anyone could help me on employment law issue on trial periods. Employed a guy in sales on a trial period for 3 months. It has become very apparent after almost 2 months that he is dreadful. Can I dispense of his services prior to the 3 months without any comeback?

Yes, thats what the trial period is for, but its also worth noting that you can generally do this within the first 12 months of employment
