Translations for Marketplaces - Ebay, Amazon etc

Hi,

I am just wondering what people's approaches are to translating their listings from English to foreign languages.

Are you able to do it in house or are you using a translation company?
Do you get everything human translated, machine translated or a mix of the two?

How do you then manage the data? Do you list and then forget about it or do you find you need to update it at times?

Interested to hear about peoples experiences!

Speaking for ourselves we have done a mix of all human translations and all machine translations. So far I would say the human translations massively outperform the machine ones but then they are hard to directly compare for a number of reasons.

Google translate is quite helpful in such case though it is not perfect but the reader can understand what message is being conveyed.

My worry with google translate is that it results in a lack of trust from the buyer, both in actual receiving what they think they are ordering and also whether they can sort any problems post transaction, meaning they are less likely to purchase.
