Transferring domain from Wix

I'm helping someone who has just signed up with WIX but now wants to move

He registered a domain with them, is within his 14 day trial period and just wants to cancel everything.

Problem is, Wix say it isn't possible to transfer the domain within 60 days of registering.

Does that only apply when transferring the domain to a different person and not apply when just transferring registrars (tag holders)?

Yes this is standard, you should be able to still set name servers at the current registrar which will give DNS responsibility (Called DNS authority) to another host and then transfer to a new registrar later when it is possible.

WIX don't allow you to change name servers, they just let you point it elsewhere via DNS records - https://support.wix.com/en/article/connecting-a-wix-domain-to-an-external-site

Then you're stuck with setting all the DNS manually at wix to point at your new host.

You mentioned changing tags which makes me believe this may be a UK domain?

If so you can retag directly with Nominet for £10+VAT.
