Hi all

I have been in touch with a seo company and they say it will probably take 6 months to get onto the 1st page of google, which they say for the keywords i would be targeting to be around 2,000 visitors per month with a conversion rate of 2%. This means that each month I would theoretically be making 40 sales per month. Does this sound right? taking conversion rate out, is 2,000 visitors per month a good start?

I guess it depends on how much each sale is worth?? And, whether this website is your 'full time' thing or not?

2,000 visitors in 6 months time yields 1.3 sales per day. In the meantime, it'll be less than this, so you may then wish to pay for traffic - e.g. consider PPC (like Adwords).

Balox first page can mean a lot of traffic or very little.

No1 site has 14 x the traffic of No 9

without knowing your products no one can say whether the conversion rate stacks up.

What keywords?

What products/services?

What site?

It's impossible to let you know whether that sounds right if we haven't got the same information as this SEO company has to work with...

Is this still for your directory?

If you can get that sort of traffic to your site, How are are you going to keep them on your directory and want to use it?

Having the traffic is all well and good but gettin people to stay there when they see it is a directory is very difficult. Iv researched directories as iv said before i used to be a high flying sales person (excuse me blowing my own trumpet) selling directories and honestly people do not like directories unless you can offer something better than the likes of Yell. If i sound negative im sorry i was going to set up my own directory about 12 months ago but i did not as i knew i could not compete with the big boys.

Can i ask are you a sales person? Again excuse the bluntness now I mean a proper sales person someone who makes 100 cold calls heres 90 no's and 10 yes's or are you wanting people to find your site and request an advert? If its the latter im afraid this is the wrong game.

Do you want to send me a breif of your directory and i will give you a sales persons feelings about how it would sell for you?

I know this is off subject but to make a directory work you need to be prepared to sit there all day everyday hammering the phone, Alot of what you will hear is "NO" unless as iv said before you can offer your advertisers something no one else does.

If it's just a prediction that you are going to make 2% conversion, then its not worth paying the SEO company. Just try to be real.

Also, just check the competition of the keywords you are trying to rank for. If they are high competitive, then 6 months might be genuine.
