Should I trademark "company name" or "companyname" to be best protected for my new brand?. There is an expired trademark for "companyname" historically.
I think you should protect your name as it will appear on your marketing materials/website/letterhead. Using a space in the middle of the trademark is unlikely to be considered a uniquely new name.
You can apply for a series of trade marks in a single application that only differ in immaterial details. I believe there is an additional official fee of around £50 for each additional mark (up to 6).
So you could register both Company Name and CompanyName in a single application, as well as any other variants (the differences must be immaterial - e.g. capitalisation, spaces, or simple arragement -both words on one line, or on different lines).
In order to maintain the validity of your registration you must use your mark in the form it is registered so if you never use CompanyName and do not intend to, there is no need to obtain a registration for it.
