Trade marks/registering the business - which comes first?

Hi, my partner and I are in the process of setting up a CIC providing music sessions for people with learning disabilities.

We've come up with a spiffy name and logo and having searched on the IPO website think that we should be okay to proceed with registering with the IPO. However, when filling in the application it asks for the status of the business and the company registration number.

My question is, surely we wouldn't register the company as a CIC (or for that matter get business cards printed etc) until we knew for certain that our company name is acceptable? Would we?

We're new at this so would appreciate any advice or guidance, thank you.

Thanks for the response, but I'm still a bit confused. What happens if the business name and/or logo are not acceptable? Would it not be problematic to change it after the company is registered/literature printed/website put online etc? Paul
