tool wholesalers.

i have asked about this before and got some responses but the sites I went to were very bad quality products.

What I am after is branded - good quality products. Not the £1 lines.

I would much rather deal direct with the big name brand for example I want to sell power tools maybe re-conditioned but how do I go about getting hold of these.

Any idea of monies involved?

kind regards
Adam

Toolbank and Silverline are the first two that spring to mind.

Other than that it would do no harm contacting the regional sales managers of the big name manufacturers and see if they either direct you to a wholesaler or agree to supply you.

That's what they are there for.

I have worked for companies that bought and sold power tools, etc e.g Hitachi, Bosch, Makita, Ryobi...

Power Tools is very much a volume game, Bosch make money from spares & accessories. For some companies the Power tools represent a very small part of their overall business.

If you want to get hold of re-conditioned machines try hire places. When I worked in Worcester, sales of power tools was highly competive with low margins, even sold at a loss to builders , etc to encourage them to buy lightside products, which is where the merchants also make their money!

I have spent over 12 years dealing with this, so fire away with any questions.

lightside products?

Well actually my idea is to sell the power tools at cost. Just to get the customers in. We sell our own line of accessories but we only have a very very small range.

There are sites out there with thousands of different products I just dont know how they do it!

In builders merchants, thay have sections, eg. heavyside ie bricks & timber, lightside ie paint & chemicals, ironmongery ie locks & tools and so on.

The mark up in heavyside is like bread & milk in your supermarket whereas the lightside is like peanut butter & herbal teabags.

So a tool supplier might sell 10 cordless drills & make £20 but sell 10 pairs of work boots & make £200.

In my experience the tool manufacturers are always keen to supply volumes, ie power tools by the pallet, it may be worthwhile approaching one of the larger power tool retailers and cutting a deal. Where I worked we did have symbiotic realtionships with smaller retailers, where we put a small margin onto cost price, which was cheaper than they could buy direct. In turn this increased our volumes which is where we made the money in terms of a year end rebate from the manufacturer.

Hope this helps.
