Tiered Link Building (Slightly Grey/Black Hat)

I've just bought GSE SER (automated link tool) that can build hundreds of low quality backlinks. I know Google doesn't approve of this but I have seen too many reports of it working to not give it a go.

To those of you who aren't familiar with this method, it's like this:

You have your main money site, and build 6 or 7 web 2.0 properties that link to this money site. Think Wordpress, Blogspot, Tumblr etc.

Then, you use automated tools to build lower quality links to the web 2.0 properties, increasing their authority and in turn pushing up the rankings for the money site.

The theory behind it is that if you ever get a penalty, you can remove the web 2.0s and any kind of penalty associated with it.

This is by no means the only link building method I will use, but as clients wait and possibly get impatient from slow improvements, you can use this to push rankings up quicker.

I will be testing out and updating the threat with the results.

Agreed. By money site I mean a recently bought domain. Make the site look good and get some decent content on there, then start with the link building.

I am new to GSE, so would start with 2 tiers to begin with and see what happens.

I have nothing against GSA, or nothing against grey/black hat methods. In fact, I use and test them myself on personal projects (except for the real black hat illegal stuff) with some success.

However, when reading this:

but as clients wait and possibly get impatient from slow improvements, you can use this to push rankings up quicker.

I have to ask - are you making your clients aware that you're using tactics which might result in long lasting penalties and black marks?

That seems overwhelmingly irresponsible to me.

Of course I would mention that, but I'm talking about the type of clients who pay £200 or so a month and expect instant results. Plus if there was a penalty associated with it, you can just removed the first tier and have it removed.

Also, links from Web 2.0 sites with brand anchor text aren't the kind of links that get penalised.

I'd ask why you would want to take clients like that in the first place.

Plus if there was a penalty associated with it, you can just removed the first tier and have it removed.

If only it was that simple. We know how obdurate Google can be - algorithmic penalties can last for months (years), while manual penalties are reviewed at a snail's pace.

Also, links from Web 2.0 sites with brand anchor text aren't the kind of links that get penalised.

I can tell you that is just flat-out wrong.

If clients only have a small budget you should give them consultancy and walk them through actions their admin team can take (eg local citations, listings etc) and actions their owner can take (become an authority, get press coverage etc) to succeed. Often a one month stint at trying to do things themselves leads to a larger budget when they realise they really wish you were doing all this hard work for them.

Here's another way to do it, that won't get you penalised if you do it right.

If you're going to take the time to build websites for backlinking, go over to "expired domains dot net" (sorry I can't yet post URLs) and buy some expired domains with good PageRank. Then use MajesticSEO to do more research into your chosen links, to make sure they've never been sandboxed or penalised in some way.

Create the websites (but make them good enough in their own right, eg with proper content) and link from them to your client's website. Do this in a natural way, ie not all at once.

The authority already contained in the newly bought domains will push your client's website up the rankings, faster and more sustainably than any dodgy linkbuilding tool.

This kind of automated link tool will surely provide instant results and make your client happy but when it comes to penalized websites, it is not just removing the bad links but it will only give you bad reputation and blacklisted from Google for untrusted website to the users.
