Hi Guys,

I received a call the other day from Thomson local advertising their pay for web ad scheme.

Gave me a price of £200 per year with around 450 hits a week for my particular sector (web and graphic design).

Does that seem like a good idea, or does anyone think I could get more ROI elsewhere?

When they say your listing will get 450 hits a week they usually mean your business will be listed when people search for something related to your business activities.

If you liken this listing to something like Google Adwords you'll probably receive a 0.5%-1% click through/call rate. That means you'll receive between 117-234 clicks. Let's say 1 in 10 people call you, if you work it out it costs about £10 a call!

I hate companies like this because they're effectively taking £200 from you for no return, that said I suppose it's no different to other offline marketing tactics.
