Doing a little project for a client in Australia and they have a legal requirement to provide explanations for financial terms. The simplest way to do this is with an info box or tooltip.

Look at this but do not touch anything just yet:

See the info icons - each one opens up a modal with the explanation. All works ok until you scroll then they can end up off screen

Now click on a button or move a slider

You now see the icon next to the value. This means it's always visible but does fill up the page with lots of blue icons.

Which one do you prefer? Just at the top or next to the results?

14 matches - that means that there are 56 little i icons - why not just four next to the headers at the top of the page? The punters only need to be informed what interest rates means once!
Looking at it again, @The Byre is probably right. I preferred the first initially but looking again it probably makes more sense at the top. You are only ticking a box after all and as @The Byre says they only need to know once

Definitely just one icon at the top of the column.

Putting them next to every value makes me think that each provider might have a variation so I must click on every icon to make sure.

Then a single modal with all the terms in bold with the description
Done that. Seems to work OK.

Looks like just the single icon at the top is the way to go.

I'm looking at the practically of the tooltip being placed at the top.

Typically a user will land on the page, adjust the slider and then immediately scroll down to look at the results.

As the user is scrolling, they may question what do all these terms mean.

Question, are they going to assume that they will need to scroll back to the top of the page to find out....?

There is a more info option which opens up under most quotes, maybe it can open up a little more and the tooltip can accessed somewhere here.
