THIS IS NOT A PITCH

Hi, So basically in 2008 I founded a consumables telesales/telemarketing team target in the public sector.I grew the company from £500 initial investment to 2.6M turnover and sold the company in 2010.I then went on to build 2x more call centre businesses in the same sector and again sold both (one only 4 months old), Anyway long story short I have for the last 4 years been helping new build/seedling SME's to put together an outbound operation to great effect in both product and service based areas.

EVERY TIME I go for an interview for a head of sales/call centre manager position the conversation always leads to "what would you charge to put together........" And the EMPLOYED aspect of the position disappears.

Now don't get me wrong I love my job and Director/Head of Sales/ titles don't float my boat SALES DOES! If I were a stick of rock and was sliced through the middle it would say "closed".I am wanting to get out of consulting/contracting and into employment (locally) but my CV always looks as if I am over qualified! Before my first business I was a sales agent (outbound only) and today I would class myself as not much more.

If anyone has any input I would appreciate it.I just want a NORMAL sales position and do not want to lie on my CV. HELP!
 
Hi, I agree with both of you but I am by admission a "starter" not a finisher.I have built so many call centre/telemarketing operations that's its second nature.Money is a by product of success and not a driver for everyone.

As for my historic businesses 3m is not in my opinion a multi by any stretch although a success in my career.

I love to build and maintain/grow but once my services are no longer needed then boredom kicks in and the spare p***k at a funeral scenario starts.

It's very important to feel important in what is a fast paced fast changing sector.

    The problem you have at interview, as well as on a forum like this, is that your story doesn't add up. If you've done what you claim to have done you wouldn't be seeking employment in a role which is usually filled by scraping the bottom of the barrel to find someone willing to do it (usually because they are capable of little else).

    If you want to seek employment you need to find a compelling and believable reason.

    Although I appreciate your comments I wouldn't call CC Management positions or Head of sales as scraping the barrel.Its I high achievers role demanding a 6 figure sum depending on operation size.

    When you said a director or head of sales role didn't float your boat, and that you saw yourself as a sales agent, I presumed you were going for roles which were very much of a sales agent type (hence my comment).

    The obvious question for an interviewer would be, if you love sales, why not just find a product or service with a good margin that you believe in, and just sell it. An employer seems surplus to requirements.

    It's sometimes known as the 'Red Thread' and is the theme of your career, the story of why you are here, in my office, asking for a job. The job has to be the next logical step in that story. Hungry, young graduate wants killer step-up to trainee sales manager. Engineer wants to be able to create more interesting products. Journalist wants to become section editor.

    Whatever the story is, it has to move forward.

    Sit down and think about your story and reconstruct your CV to the point where the jobs you are applying for become the next logical step up in the ladder of your career.

    Either that, or go back to what you do best!

    .....if you sold a £2.6M T/O company (+ 2 other follow on companies) shouldn't you be sipping Pina Coladas on the Cayman Isles, vs trying to get a job in Sales?
