Thinking: Freight Forwarding

Hi,

I notice over the last few weeks that I have helped and answered alot of peoples questions on here with imports etc. Part of what I do is most deliveries with some products I sell.

After helping a UKBF member today found her parcel that apparently no one seem to have but in the end I found it I am considering of doing UK Mainland Freight Forwarding.

Part of this service just would be picking up the clients goods from the airport and delivering the goods to a delivery address. Some delivery companies I spoke to today it was shocking that after the 4th attempt they would just return the goods back to the country.

I thought that was abit harsh. I am just wondering would this be a good service to offer but we would store the goods if the delivery is missed in our secure building and re-arrange with the client for delivery at no extra charge.

Looking forward to hear everyone's thoughts.

Being the one you helped :D

I would be interested, not right now but in the future when I'm buying in larger bulk & possibly pallets, I'd need clearing through customs too, which I imagine most people would.

Btw. I collected it they were delivering it to the wrong road, as they'd printed off their own labels incorrectly & stuck them all over the address that the supplier had put on, 2nd time I've had problems with them, I'll be sending a complaint next week!

I was happy to help you Anna :)

I can also help you having your goods cleared through customs as I have friends that do it as a day-to-day business. I was thinking more likes that my company would pick your parcels up for you and deliver them straight to your door on a next day delivery service or offer a 2-3 day delivery depending where in the UK the client would be.

Interlink Express had your name down as Julie. I can assure you if you use my Freight Forwarding company I am looking at starting we wont make that mistake.

Thanks for your comment.

By the sounds of it your problem is with couriers delivering shipments sent by overseas? If so your plans wont work as it is a delivered product and MUCH cheaper for small consignments. They wont just let you collect it from them and arrange delivery. Also then people would effectively be paying for two services. What you are talking about doing sounds to me more like people would ship things by air freight and you would then collect out of the airport after arranging customs and then deliver? Customs clearance for this isn't cheap, you have to have import badges for each airport which is a few £k a year. Plus transport and waiting time collecting out the airports, storage and free re-deliveries which would have to be on your own vehicles if you are offering that. I don't think it would work unless you have the infrastructure and commit to it full time and even then the Market is huge and competitive. Plus there is a lot more involved than people think. Just my opinions though obviously but I do this as part of my job :)
