Theo's Adventure Capitalists

Has anyone else been watching this three part series?

Just in the middle of watching the second episode, its worthy of watching although I somehow think its 'brain dead telly' - Easy to watch but nothing really happens.

Anyone else watch this? What are your thoughts?

I saw the first episode on iplayer, and thought it was interesting, we good to see that even establish business get it wrong, and the education people got well and truely screwed. The boat people kept on the ball and got it right and the magazine one shows hard long work can work in the end, but the world that relise on advetising is much harder now than ever.

I did think it was easy viewing, but it was just right i think, not to much of theo preaching, not to techy, and enough highs and lows to keep you watching.

So how much is your watch then ?

Oh, it's er.....er.......this price, no hold on, that price......, and how much tax do we pay, and er...., haggling, discounts ? Really ?

I think it shows that no matter what you do, you have to do the bloody research first - a fundamental thing to do which some of these so called entrepreneurs seemed to have neglected completly !!

I watched the one last night and thought it was a bit of a poor effort by Theo, he's usually pretty entertaining.

I thought it would have been better to drill down a bit, maybe look at one company in a lot more detail rather than skim over 3. For example, at the end they were talking to the marmite people who said they were going to invest £500k into moving into India. I would have liked to see how they were looking to spend it, projected sales etc. They were talking about having a celebrity chef front the campaign, I would have thought that would have taken a lot of their budget straight away.

I know what you mean, Theo doesn't have any real input and is more of a reported that an real insperation to the processes, but TBH i kind of liked that, as it ment for easy watching.

Although for a more informative, and interesting program I would have like someone to have been a lot more involved and show alot more information, but I don't think I would want it to be Theo.

I saw one of them, I think it would be more interesting if they'd stayed with the companies and seen the deals implemented (because that's where things can get even more interesting!). As it is, you didn't really get a very good sense of how things would work out.

Anyone see last nights?

Last one was a good one! I didn't think sleek would do too well, 3 million turnover and only in 196 superdrugs - why did they feel now is the time to expand abroad? The potential customer base was 40 million, I have no idea of figures but let's say afrocaribean woman was 15mill in this country, that's a huge step! In the end there marketing budget was 19% of the distrutors figure - too low I would have thought

Not seen all the programs but I can back up from experience that opening and running a business in a overseas country makes running one in this country look like child's play.

We opened in Marrakech in March 2009 and I could write a book about it, making it work but everything is harder, much harder

Exploit every angle in your home market before stepping overseas expansion.

Of course I never listen to my own advice :rolleyes:

I like the program in the main, but not really sure they should also have a big name company in each show, if a company like Cadbury's cannot sort themselves out to take on another country what hope is there for the rest.

As I said before great pr for the small companies, that kind of exposure on prime time tv would cost £££££'s - what would Mrs P think? and the the little P's inheritance :)

I like having the big names in, I think it makes a difference being able to compare what the big names have done in due dillagence compared to the smaller ones, and both marmite and cabury we are lot more prepared and ready to push there brands than the independants, I mean the marketing martmite were offering from stage 1 was huge but the make up ladies, where only looking at 5% and only up'd it to 19% (i think), both figures after there research fall short IMO.
