Has anyone got any tips for getting follows apart from the usal? looking to build up quickly !

Make sure your bio is filled in, include a photo, and then say a dozen or so reasonably interesting things connected to your industry (try sharing interesting links too). Then when you start following people, they'll be able to see from your profile page that you're not boring or a spammer, and will be more likely to follow back :)

Use the search box to look for people talking about things that matter to you - for example, the film industry - and visit their page. If they seem to talk about that subject a lot, then chances are they would be interested in anything you have to say, and may follow back if you follow them (assuming of course you've previously posted a few interesting tweets and filled in your bio, so they can see what to expect from you if they do follow). You could also send an @ to these people, introducing yourself and asking if they would be kind enough to follow you. I always think, if you don't ask, you don't get (as proved by your recent UKBF thread! :D)

Also try starting or joining a discussion about Christmas movies, since that's relevant to you. Again, try the search box to find people talking about this subject, and just join in with them. Then mention you're making your own Christmas movie, and that if they follow you, they'll be among the first to know when it's released :)

And remember Twitter isn't a numbers game. No point having a million followers if none of them are actually reading your tweets... go for quality over quantity :)

Hope this helps but you know where I am if you need me :)

*chuckle*

Going by last night's antics, I'd say you're doing OK :p Still laughing about that this morning :D Great thing about chatting to a movie man - I quote the randomest quote, and you know exactly what I'm talking about... just don't start me on Withnail & I or neither of us will get any sleep :D :D

Back on topic... there is actually tons of advice on any number of blogs about how to use Twitter for business. Business on Twitter is one of the better ones (run by Nikki Pilkington, a very well-known internet marketer). When I wrote about Twitter on my blog, I took a bit of a different angle... how to really annoy the average person (i.e. me, lol) with Twitter. Hope you find it useful :)

I'd already read your post :p - I'll have a look at the Business on Twitter one.

We've decided to create a persona for our YouTube channel & Twitter and thus @The_SneakyZebra was born - think of him as a retired spy who taught James Bond all he knows

Once we've got some vids up on the YouTube channel we'll point people towards it I just want to try and raise awareness before we launch the christmas film :)

Good plan :) Works very well for Compare the Meerkat - love him or hate him, Alexandr Orlof's character on Twitter and Facebook is very consistent with the TV ad character, and very popular. One of my favourite Twitter/Facebook personas, actually - he's very funny :)

that is excellent, consistency is key.

I got over 1000 follows in three days when I opened my twitter account.
I guess 50% of the 2000 people I followed in that time reciprocated.

That's maybe why it hasn't grown much since, cos I am not allowed to add more than 2000 until I exceed 2000!

Meanwhile madly following others doesn't always work, is time consuming and...of course...pointless. :) I myself did it as a bet.

I was told following lots and lots of people is pointless as you mentioned, but would it be good in my case do you think? I am raising money for charity, and the more people that follow me the better...or is it still pointless? <<link removed by Mod>>

My feelings on this are that you can follow as many people as you like, but if they are no benefit to you is there any point? Mainly due to the amount of tweets you have to scroll through to get to the ones you're interested in. However, having more followers than following is better as that is more people who are aware of you/your business

Wow a 1000! nice!

Steadily growing now - want it to be organic so I've got a choice selection of around 240 people I follow now and I'm just engaging @mentions where I can. Gettting a couple of extra followers a day.

I will boost up once we start releasing our videos

Jason -
# = Hashtags - its a way of searching all posts with that content i.e. if someone wants to search for film they can use hashtag search for #film and all related posts come up.

Its a bit of a relic from a older twitter I belive the new search just scans any word in the post.
