Make sure your bio is filled in, include a photo, and then say a dozen or so reasonably interesting things connected to your industry (try sharing interesting links too). Then when you start following people, they'll be able to see from your profile page that you're not boring or a spammer, and will be more likely to follow back
Use the search box to look for people talking about things that matter to you - for example, the film industry - and visit their page. If they seem to talk about that subject a lot, then chances are they would be interested in anything you have to say, and may follow back if you follow them (assuming of course you've previously posted a few interesting tweets and filled in your bio, so they can see what to expect from you if they do follow). You could also send an @ to these people, introducing yourself and asking if they would be kind enough to follow you. I always think, if you don't ask, you don't get (as proved by your recent UKBF thread!

)
Also try starting or joining a discussion about Christmas movies, since that's relevant to you. Again, try the search box to find people talking about this subject, and just join in with them. Then mention you're making your own Christmas movie, and that if they follow you, they'll be among the first to know when it's released
And remember Twitter isn't a numbers game. No point having a million followers if none of them are actually reading your tweets... go for quality over quantity
Hope this helps but you know where I am if you need me
