The MOST "Infuential" Book

Hi

I just gave somebody a wee bit of advice to buy a book in a post on here...

and it is something I think is a piece of advice for anybody who is selling anything (and let's face we all are, all the time).

I was amazed and delighted to read this book, and well... without too much hyperbole, I was an instant convert.

The book is "influence" by a chap called Robert Cialdini. If you haven't read it you are seriously short-changing yourself...

Hmmm - I really should put one of those "buy it here" thru links to Amazon and make a penny or two, huh?

Anyway - buy it. You will like it! :)

Hmmm, "solicitor gets carried away and doesn't proof-read title of post..."

How embarrassing!

Ah well - the sentiment is still sound, even if my spelling isn't! (I blame this old keyboard... Ahem!)

Not sure Jeff - I suspect strictly speaking "no", but I also think the moderators would probably take a view if it was a helpful link - such as this (albeit this isn't an affliate link) - as opposed to one that led to, say, a squeeze page type thingy.

In any case many thanks for posting it and for reading this. I'm guessing you're also a fan?:)

Yeah - it's less than £6!!

It is a bargain. (We actually give our interns and paralegals copies and make them do a little "course" based on it.)

In fact if you don't like it, let me know. Send your copy to me and I'll refund your money! :D

Yes great book, it should be compulsory reading!

Cialdini also made a DVD around his ideas which you and your interns might enjoy watching, it's pretty much the same information as the book but i personally feel its nice to see it in different formats.

Are there any other books you would recommend? Im currently reading Tony Schwartz "power of full engagement" and find his concepts very interesting although this has nothing to do with sales like influence.

For sales i always find myself going back to Joe Sugermans adweek guide to copywriting

I've been considering getting and reading that book for a while now, but there's also this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Influence-Practice-Robert-B-Cialdini/dp/0205663788

According to one review on Amazon I read, the one I just linked to is a more accademic version of the one linked to by Jeff. They both cover much the same ground but in a different manor, possibly? Just wondering if anyone's read both and could give a bit of a comparison?

Thanks.

There's another thread on this book today (Advice for attending first networking event). Here it is http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=149969

This is what I posted there about the differences:

They're more or less the same book except that Science and Practice is the more academic version with classroom discussion questions and more scientific evidence included. I have the Science and Practice version, Third Edition and this is what the preface says:
"The initial (trade) version of Influence was designed for the popular reader and, as such, an attempt was made to write it in an engaging style. In the classroom version, that style is retained but, in addition, I present the research evidence for my statements, recommendations and conclusions".

Thanks Olivia

Infuence, infulence... it's all the same to me! :D (Especially now after a snifter or two...)

I actually noticed just after posting (see post No.2), but you can't edit your title... Bah!! :(

Still - I bet you really enjoy the book.

Have a great weekend!
