The Great UKBF Link Exchange

Just want to say for anyone who has added my link I will be updating the links page later this evening with all that have added iccommunications.co.uk on there.

It is working for my rankings and I hope it is for all of yours!

I have noticed a few slightly dodgy links from companies such as www.homeloansmortgage.com/resources/23/48/randomfolder

Plus anyone else who is adding my link I now have a page rank 5 on both my link pages and will link to any sites page rank 2 or above.

IC Communications
Free 0870 Numbers - Business telecom services, such as 0870,0845 and 0800 numbers. - www.iccommunications.co.uk

However, I am happy to set up links to any site with anyone who would like to help a newbie and preferable sites selling to consumers!

my sites are in my signature - please check them out!

Thanks to anyone who helps - Elaine

The RSS feed has also been updated with all recent posts.

Note: I've excluded innermoo's link, as I understand from other postings that she won't be participating in the conference and therefore won't be adding everyone else's links. If this assumption is wrong or things change, please let me know.

    Hi,
I have just set you something up on these pages,

    Cumberland business directory

    Disability products

Whilst doing it I noticed I have it set up as Cumberland rather than Cumbria. Which is the more common used name for the county Cumbria or Cumberland?
You can also add your details via the automated process, that will add you to the Cumbria section plus about 4 other pages.

Don't be put of by the 0 PR on the disability site, it is a newish page and is being crawled (check the cache)

Anyone else interested in links like these get in touch and also feel free to submit to my directory

I love Ozzy's idea, and would join in too, if I knew how.

I have a website, which I like, but I left all the design etc. to a 3rd party. And the hosting is done by someone else, who seem reluctant to give me any guidelines on how I can update my site myself. I'm very bad a this sort of thing, but great at lots of other stuff!

If anyone has the time and inclination to give me a hand with this, I'd be most grateful. But not cash grateful!

    Cheers

    Emma,

To participate in this you will need to add links to your links page on a regular basis e.g. http://www.redboxvirtualoffice.com/links.html

We can help with providing advice on writing the HTML to do this (it's relatively straightforward to do). The issue comes when you want to add this updated "page" to the rest of your site.

You will need to arrange to get access to your hosting directory so that you can copy files into place. If your existing provider isn't being flexible here it might be worth considering getting another hosting provider. There are a number of these on the forum.

There are SUBSTANTIAL benefits from participating in this link exchange in terms of your ranking within search engines and the amount of traffic / sales enquiries that your site generates.

PM me if you would like a walkthrough on how to add a link, free of course.

Ozzy has spoken to me that there's some great coding I can add to my site so that I don't have to add people on manually. Can anyone advise please.

Ian I have a ssi file if you want to use that for linking then it will auto update with new links when they are added.

A few people on the forums use it as they never have to update their own links page again!

Could you send me this ssi file please. Would make my life very easy.

    Thanks

As a few people are aware ..

Google is now placing a higher value on one way links rather than reciprocal links - from those who use our ssi file - shall I co-ordinate switching to a 1 way linking system ?

It would still work but there would be 3 different ssi's.

    A links to B
    B links to C
    C links to A

So if people are on list A ther use SSI-B
People on list B use SSI-C
and people on list C use SSI-A

Any thoughts - From what I know it would be more beneficial.

Once they were setup in your systems (like the current ssi) they would all be automatic.

And if you use the current ssi all you would have to do is change the name once and it would all start working :)

    Aaagh, I hate Google!

What does this mean for little ol' me who is getting a gratis service from her web host? I've given him the original ssi file; do I tell him to stop what he's doing and wait for more information? or will the original linking still be relevant but not as useful?

    Do nothing for now :)

Lets get some more responses and then work out a way forward. In the meantime I will keep updating the original file :)

Two way links are still fine for Google, but they don't hold the value that they used to. One way links are way better, but they need to be ON TOPIC for the site.

    I have a suggestion...

You may have seen my post relating to Del.icio.us the social bookmarking site. (And no doubt wondered what I was wittering on about).

They allow you to categorise links using "tags", then bring a list of links back that only match a particular tag. We could use tags to keep our links on topic for our websites.

As an example the following URL returns a list of my links in Del.icio.us, that relate to "SEO" (ideal for search engine optimisation companies / web designers).

    http://del.icio.us/html/enigma121/seo?tags=no

We could establish three different user accounts, to hold the three lists for three distinct groups of users.

Group A recieves links from Group C but not Group B, they show links relating to Group B

Group B recieves links from Group A but not Group C, they show links relating to Group C

Group C recieves links from Group B but not Group A, they show links relating to Group A

I think that this approach would need to be "managed" by three link monitors who add links to the various groups.

    Suggested user names

    UKBFLinksGroupA
    UKBFLinksGroupB
    UKBFLinksGroupC

This post is starting to read like an RFC document.... Maybe I should start a new thread.
