How does one go about obtaining useful contact information for a celebrity?

I am aware the best route is to go via thier agency, but google just throws up a ton of useless "we have every home phone number for everybody on the planet!" type sites. I cant see these being very helpful at all.

Is there a directory of actual agencies that represent the real people?

I want to do this the correct way so i can send my proposal with confidence.

Does anyone deal with celebrity on a regular basis? If so, I would really appriciate some pointers.

Thank you.

Thank you.

As pointed out, yes kindof, but also most official fanpages will give agency contact details.

If you gave more information we could help better maybe.

I

I Love Spreadsheets

I have put on a number of charity events where we have scrounged stuff from celebs and this is the best method I have found

1. Sign up to the pro version of IMDB.com - There is a subscription fee, but normally the first 14 days are free and if you cancel before then you will not get charged. (Totally trustworthy site owned by Amazon BTW)
2. Find out your celebs agent and contact them only through the agent
3. Best to do it writing if you scrounging something, people get annoyed by phone calls and emails are too easy for them to delete.
4. Be patient, some will respond in a few days, some in a few months. Not all celebs are available to read your mail straight away or are not in touch with their agents daily.

If someone ever gives you the private address or phone number of a celeb do not use it ever. It is the quickest way to get on their ignore the nutters list.

Be polite in your letter and to the point, dont waffle on. The longer the letter the less chance of a response.

Hope that helps

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Red pages is a good starting point.

I was under the impression my tweets would just be lost in a sea of fan love. Using the journo hashtag is very useful information to have, thank you.

A special thank you to the lover of spreadsheets, some very helpful information there. I am trying to achieve a similar thing, though im not scrounging stuff, im giving them stuff in exchange for some mutually benificial marketing.

Top secret im afraid.

Again, thank you all for the suggesetions.
