Thank God It's Christmas (Queen cover song)

Merry Christmas UKBF! Time Out! It's not all work, work, work!

Here's some guitar strumming I do in my spare time, a live solo acoustic guitar cover of Queen's Thank God It's Christmas, performed live over 3 consecutive nights last week in pubs in Northampton and Wellingborough.

As the song says: "It's been a long hard year", so time for a well earned break, and have a good 'un!

Paul please buy yourself a Gibson Humingbird or an Ovation or better still get a good group to back you.

The voice has great potential as said before ,but the scratchy sound of a poor quality acoustic does you no favours.IMHO

Also solo acoustic performances are not main stream.

Sirearl, I started off with a Yamaha acoustic, didn't like it, traded up to an Ovation electro acoustic, OK but still thought it was wasted on me for my particular style (I don't use picks) and not such a good pickup, so downsized to my current no-brand guitar which I like very much and has what I need (amp/pickup-wise). I've also tried an expensive Tanglewood but couldn't really tell the difference. I get to hear a lot of different electro acoustic guitars on the local open mic circuit and haven't yet felt, that's the one. I think it's all down to personal taste, how you play, the range of songs you play, the type of sound you want, how much you play acoustically or amped up, string preference (I use extra light strings because I don't use a pick), and the price of guitar you are willing to take out to a pub at night! Thanks for having a listen! and thank god I'm not giving up my day job! (the audio on that video might give a different acoustic guitar sound to the trained ear too, because a lot of it was taken directly from the mixer, i.e. through the pickup/amp)

Points noted Paul again however you are producing the guitar sound its not doing you any favours.IMHO

Have you ever recorded in a studio.?

I don't know if you know of Tommy Emmanuel but the guy makes me feel sick as a parrot.:)

He plays a Manton guitar made in OZ.

I recorded my first album of 12 original songs last year in my humble DIY home studio (the free preview is in lo fi mp3 quality). Again nothing fancy, just solo acoustic to get the songs out.

Yep, I have heard of Tommy Emmanuel, but he is one of the "guitar greats", and I, with my self-deprecating name of Strummer, have absolutely no aspirations of being a guitar instrumentalist, I strum and that's about it (as well as singing along too). Nothing fancy, if anyone, I am more likely to aspire to an amateur, poor man's version of Nick Lowe, a guy who can write, sing and solo strum out great songs like I Live On A Battlefield (but without the band too).
