I know a few people who have been to Phuket Gary. All have had a great time.

I'd recommend tripadvisor as a good resource and of course ignore the professional moaners.

If you're serious then you need ot go start getting jabs sorted now. don't leave them until too close to the time because some require a few weeks for Thailand.

edit: Don't skimp. Get a good hotel if you're thinking all inclusive.

Hi Gary

I lived and worked in Thailand for 4 years, cannot say enough good things about the country. Any Qs please feel free to ask. Phuket is wonderful, some great beaches close to the airport, some great snorkelling down near Rawai (coral island I think its called) you can get a return fishtail boat for about 250 baht. I lived in Bangkok and it is a must for a few days at least. Visit the grand palace and the best cultural show is Siam Nirimit.
Hope that gives you a few ideas

Agreed. The top-class hotels in Thailand are truly excellent. I've stayed a few times with the Amari brand and would recommend them.

When I booked the Amari Watergate hotel in central Bangkok (a business trip), it cost me about $150/night (that's dollars, not pounds, and it was about 10 years ago). On a later visit, a local agent booked the same hotel locally for me and arranged for me to pay with cash; that rate was $40/night. The point is that the rate when booking through a local person - whom you must trust, of course - can be much less.
