text on some websites has gone very large - why??!

Started surfing the net this morning, and some, not all, websites now have really big clumsy text! Ebay, google, Yahoo are a few. UKBF seems fine.

I havent changed any settings since yesterday.

Why is this happening and how can i put it right as its really annoying???

Are you using Internet Explorer? If so try View - Text Size. Check it is set to medium or below. Similar for Firefox

As DotNewWebs suggests, it's most likely you've inadvertently changed the browsers Text size. This can easiliy be done by mistake by using the mouse scroll wheel (like most of us do) but having the Control key still pressed down.

A quick shortcut for resetting it if using Firefox is the keep the Control (Ctrl) key pressed down and hit the 0 (zero) key

Not quite sure what you mean Jonathon.

If you mean why are some web sites affected and not others it could be because the browser text setting will only affect sites where the font has been set to a relative size eg *.em as opposed to a fixed size eg *.px

Sometimes it can be your PC becomming low on system resources as well.

It's quite nice to be able to resize the text on some sites. you can do it on ours, although our text is slightly larger overall because most people prefer/find it easier to read larger text than smaller online.

But not all or perhaps even the majority allow visitors to view the site in the way in which they prefer, often forcing a set window and text size which proves frustrating to those who like larger text.

You don't have to be visually impaired to want to view larger text - a recent report on the BBC showed that a high proportion of CEEFAX viewers prefered the text large, much higher than the numbers of visually impaired viewers out there.

Accessible sites use relative rather than absolute fonts for accessibility purposes. If you look at the three sites that Mark has problems with they all allow text resizing. UKBF does not that is why I suspect the problem is with Mark's browser settings

The majority of Ceefax users are over 60 (assuming, I know!) and of course you want it larger if the TV is 3 metres away! PC hardly 3 metres away

We thought about putting the text enlargement control on our website but was advised not to because most browsers have the functionality already. A visually-impaired person is likely to have it set to his/her preferred setting

Interesting I just read a couple of other threads and I found that some people had overly large signatures. I forgot I had left my text size set to Largest! It seem that UKBF does allow text resizing if you use the rich text editor. Look at this post with your text setting at "Largest"

Whoops, http://www.handsonaccess.com allows useres to change text size
