Hopefully this is the right place for this thread, otherwise, mods, please move as you feel appropriate.

I am after a text messaging service, where I can send and receive texts via Outlook. I use Outlook on my Mac as well as my PC. I use Macs and PC's as my personal machines. I currently use TextLocal. I have used FastSMS in the past. They all offer the service. However, I feel they all charge silly prices to have "normal mobile number" to receive texts to. Something like £200 a year or something along those lines.

Now this is NOT for marketing. I don't send hundreds or thousands of text messages. I want and like the convenience and sending my customers texts and for them to be able to reply to it. It is extremely convenient and useful. Not everyone has emails set-up on their phones. So I love having texts on my PC. If anyone uses a text service that is better priced can they let me know.

Thank you.

Good evening,

We would recommend you look at www.txtlocal.com - you can set this up to be able to send and receive emails through email and the messages sent are delivered from your chosen name/number.

A really flexible service with great customer service.

If you need a hand setting up just let us know.

Richard

This is something I've just started to look into and I've checked out the 2 providers that you mention, and noticed that the cost of a virtual mobile number from FastSMS just now is starting at £100 with Vat to add onto probably - not sure.

So a bit cheaper than £200. But if anybody knows of cheaper still, I'm interested.

You say that's a silly price, but think about it, unless you have PAYG mobile, most contracts would cost you at least that over a year.

Have you had a chat with the great people at TextLocal (and they are a member on UKBF as well)? I've used their services for a few years and always found them to be very helpful.

Hi Guys,

I was about to post you an update to say that I have found a UK based company that gives you a dedicated long number for £100 a year. Then I saw the reply from Text Local person, offering to give it to me for £5 a month as UKBF member. That's great. So I have PM'd them as I don't know their name. Hopefully they will give it to me and I am going to be happy bunny. :)

I have to say a genuine BIG THANK YOU to the guys at Text Local. That is really fast response and a great service. To All, If you see the If you see the time stamp of my last reply, that's roughly when I PM'd Text Local, within not even 5 minutes, I was sent a PM with a dedicated long number. Running a service business I know how it feels to be on both sides of the coin. So it is genuinely appreciated by me. I will certainly recommend you. Thank you.
