Tesco - Visa Electron Logo

On a recent visit to the Tesco groceries website I noticed that they had put a red line through the Visa Electron logo (presumably to indicate they are no longer accepting this card type). Presumably, this is a registered/trademarked logo of Visa's so are Tesco in breach of anything for doing this?

Highly likely. Do they know? Probably. Do they care? No.

They take the use of a full credit/debit card as part of their age verification process (rightly or wrongly) but generally speaking Electron cards are issued to younger people and will likely have been abused. Rather than implement stringent age checking for all, one assumes it easier for them to just limit payment methods to those not popular with the young.

Easier to just disable the card type via their Gateway CP I would have thought.

People will then phone up saying their VISA (electron) card doesn't work when they select VISA (debit or credit), we get that often. Better to explicitly say / cross through the electron logo.

I got a Visa Electron and I'm 50. Wasn't there any better way to deal with the teens problems?
