Telling people about a new idea

Hello,

I'm the owner of a website 'ownarecordlabel.com' which is a new concept where people become members of a record label, they then get to vote on artists to invest in (meaning that money is given to the artist to produce and promote an album). As a member they receive benefits like reduced album prices, gig tickets and contact with the bands/atists.

My problem is that because it's a new concept how do I go about telling people about it? I'm finding the traditional keywords difficult as people don't know it's there.

Has anyone been in a similar situation where they need to tell the public about something? If so how did you go about it? and what were your successes?

Thanks,

Adam

Operating niche market ideas is always difficult as there are no leaders to follow. That said first to market is an excellent position to be in.

Our approach is testing slowly, try one approach see how it plays out and then either move on or capitalise on what has been done.

You are looking at a long-term plan as you have nothing to work from, it will be a slow process and you need to be very methodical. In addition you will try a number of ideas, most of which will probably fail so be careful with your budget.

In your position I would start off with launching blogs and forums, as a cost effective starting point.

If you have the budget then Fuzzy is not wrong.

...logically I'm thinking it should work like this:

Your service must be a benefit to artists/bands or your service is doomed presumably.

Bands do gigs and for each gig they do a flyer, promote on myspace, their website etc You want to be on those promotional pieces.

So you need to target bands and they are generally fairly easy to find on myspace etc. Email them with the benefits (repeatedly) make it a condition of sign up for bands that they promote the url on their flyers etc, there is no reason I can see that they would object.

Hey Presto! you get right to your target audience and more importantly the audience of the bands you actually have signed up.

Good Luck!

Thanks Spiritas, really good comments there, I think I'll start by touting the idea about a bit on sites such as myspace and concentrate on getting the artists behind the idea (then I guess it's in their interest to promote the site!). I'll try to let you know how I'm getting on.
Thanks LincolmLord - That's great, I've just updated the 'bands & artists' section so it should be easy for them to register!

Hi,

I think your idea is brilliant, I know many bands that would want to sign up onto something like that. It's so hard to get a record deal at the moment. In terms of marketing your idea, I may be able to help you? I am an Advertising and Marketing Communications graduate and have been writing and carrying out marketing strategies for many companies.

As your idea is brand new, It would be an excellent PR story. If you would like some assistance with this, I could write a PR article for you and send it out to targeted press contacts, in which I have an extensive database of. This would ensure your target audience read about your company. Please let me know if you're interested and we can have a chat about how I could help.

Kind Regards,
Vicky
