TaxCalc.....not really impressed!!! :S

Hi Guys.....just wondering what your opinions on TaxCalc?

Have heard really good things about it on here so downloaded the 28 day trial software, mainly to use it for filing corporation tax returns, rather than individual's tax returns. I use VT for accounts production and am very happy with it!

I must admit I was hugely disappointed with TaxCalx, I cant really see any benefit to it, apart from it keeps all your UTR numbers, Authentication codes neatly in one place etc. It didnt really save me any time compared to exporting the tagged iXBRL file from VT Final Accounts and attaching to HMRC's software instead of using the Computations & Accounts part of the HMRC Software!

Am I missing something and am not making the most of the TaxCalc software?

Thanks in advance!!
D.

TaxCalc suits an accountancy firm with many clients. If you are an individual tax payer you may not find it any better than the HMRC software or any other software. One of our firms switched to TaxCalc a couple of years ago after using PTP for several years.

I've used TaxCalc for a long time now and am VERY impressed with it. I'd struggle to fault it. Not sure where you are going wrong but honestly really surprised you arent impressed.

No, there's not much to CT for the typical small company, so if that's all you want taxcalc for, then probably not worth it to be honest. Unfortunately, the database "hub" isn't really up to much yet either. It does look as if you need to use their own accs prep system, in conjunction with the hub and the tax return side to get the benefits of integration etc (although I've not seen enough benefits for me to ditch VT and switch to them). They do say the hub is a work in progress and will be developed, so maybe in the future it will be worth it.

Apologies, I should have said that I run a small, relatively new practice, with around 30 Sole Trader clients and 20 small Companies.

Would the benefit of Taxcalc come, when I have a much higher number of clients, as it seems about the same amount of effort to complete a Corporation Tax return using Taxcalc as using the free HMRC software.

I currently fill in the boxes on the CT600 and attach iXBRL attatchments for the accounts and computations, which I create very easily in VT Final Accounts.

    Thanks!
