Tax refunds

Hi if you are an agent, and you want any tax refund to be payable to you so can deduct your fee before sending refund to client, how do you request this of your client and of HMRC? Is there a formal process?

On the tax return page 7 there is a section headed "If you have paid too much tax". Put your details in there.

Very formal for qualified accountants including using a clients' account at the bank and not the practice's own account

Be aware that if the client phones HMRC and says "send it to me, not the accountant" there is nothing that you can do about it. Fortunately many get paid fairly quickly so the chance of this happening is lower than it used to be
