Everyone I know that uses tape a lot uses LTO tapes and drives, and as long as they remember to run the cleaning cassette every so often seem fairly trouble free.

LTO drives would normally connect to the SCSI bus. If you haven't ordered that 20TB RAID6 server yet, then make sure the RAID controller card has a spare external mini HBA port. That will make connecting the tape drive easy.

Businesses like it as is is easy, cheap, secure and gives them a disaster recovery solution! Data is automatically backed up via the internet over night to a secure data centre. Data can be easily accessed and recovered via a portal at any time.

For data that size we’d typically take the tapes to the data centre to be uploaded there.
