My Father had a call to his business number from talk talk. They spent about 30 minutes trying to pursuade him that they were the cheapest and said they can garantee that they are cheaper for businesses than BT etc etc etc. After a while he just said hes happy with BT and that they have been very helpful and sorted issues quickly and had calls routed to his mobile for a week while a line was down.

Then they called again the next day, and the next day, and twice the next day, and the next etc etc.

At the end of 2 weeks of 15-20 pushy calls he got rather angry and asked to speak to the manager and asked to be removed from their call lists.

Guess who called the next day! and the next! A few select four letter words and they have finally stopped.

Has anybody else experianced this with talk talk?

Not with Talk Talk but with a different company. I was in exactly the same position, kept saying I wasn't interested and demanding they remove me from their database ... to no avail. Eventually I solved the problem by telling the caller I wanted their manager's name and fax number. I promptly sent a fax with a direct written instruction not to make any further calls to my company and requesting a signed fax by return confirming the removal of my details from their database. Got a fax back from the manager a couple of hours later and never heard from the company again!

Hey, should you be surprised when you see the name of the firm? :D

But seriously this is unacceptable. I am usually the polite the first couple of times a sales firm contacts me, but if they keep ringing as soon as I hear the name of the firm I say, "We do not want to have any dealings with your firm, thank you and because you keep calling I am going to be contacting my solicitor to proceed with legal action against you for these incessant nuisance calls " and hang up.

But now, I generally answer the phone at home with "Hello" and if someone doesn't respond within a second (for instance there is just complete silence) I hang up. If it was a personal caller they will ring again.

Yes, this is the best way to do it. A faxed written instruction is much better than verbally asking to be removed on the phone - how can you prove you did ask?

whenever i hear...'i'm calling from xxx'... i always stop before they go any further and say..'before you go any further, as don't want to waste yours and my time, but no thanks. have good day, goodbye'.

Seems to do the job!

There is a free service you can register to remove your telephone number from unsolicited sales and marketing calls.

Companies have a legal requirement to not call anyone on this list. It takes some time for your number to be filtered onto all lists, but when it is complete you'll find that you hardly receive any more of those sort of calls.

More information and to register on the Telephone Preference Service tpsonline.org.uk/tps/

Not personally, but i have said it before and I will say it again, you get what you pay for, and in the case of large telcoms companies they pay badly and have unrealistic targets, which no doubt they have to hit to get a bonus which almost makes up a decent wage. The turnover is high but they have loads of people lining up to take their place so there is not pressure to change things. The best thing to do is do what your doing, with any luck people will type in talk talk and get this thread up high.

I got conned by a telecommunications company, when I went via the FSA I did get my money back but they still keep phoning me once a week trying to sell me their product! Their sales pitch is always a load of lies but I just can't be bothered to complain to trading standards.
