Taking infrequent debit card payments, what is best way?

Hi all, whats quicket way to take debit card payment for little and few transactions.

I am after a quick and easy way to take a debit card payment from someone face to face.

As a new business, taking payment this way will be infrequent so dont want to apply for a merchant account unless I need to.

Is there anyway I can take payment via smartphone.

There's also some from intuit pay, Payleven, mpowa, payatrader, PayPal as stated, and a few others.

But the worldpay offering seems to be the best all round one, the pin pad looks like a pin pad people are used to seeing and using, funds are settled in full and daily, they bill you later for the fees, no monthly charges, you can pay £6 a month and get the fees down to 1.95% otherwise it's 2.75%, which considering there's no monthly fees, no contracts and no hidden nastiness on the terms, it seems fairly reasonable, of course if you process thousands a week, then a 'normal' setup may be better.

I have one, there's a few threads on here with people passing views on them, and the concensus seems to be they are good devices.

Yup, that's the one, by settled, I mean the batch is sent for settlement the same day, it then takes a few days to hit your bank account, I assumed the payments were sent over by bacs which adds the 3 days.

It really is a fairly robust system, and the settlements are quicker than other similar systems, izettle fir instance, settles in 7 days, I think intuit is the same, sone of the others settle in 14 days.

It costs nothing to have there, except the initial device fee, although I and many others got it for free in the pilot, the fees are fairly reasonable considering, but I expect they will get better as the year progresses and these things mature, after all its a fairly new system, and a new way of doing things, they could possibly drop to be on par with traditional machines, once Paypal and a few others shake things up.
